Forts & Forest Friday!

Happy Forest Friday! A big thank you to Mr. Kevin for walk-in us down and Ms. Katie for walking us back.

When we got to the Forest, everyone began to run towards the fallen trees, which is their usual favorite spot, but they stopped in their tracks when they noticed a special surprise: Someone had taken all of the fallen branches and stacked them to make a super cool type of fort. The Acorns were so excited! They spent most of our Forest time exploring the new area. All of the Acorns thought Ms. Katie had built the fort, which would not have been surprising as she is really good at things like that, but she shared that it was already there when she arrived! So for now, it remains a mystery.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Habitats expanding

This morning we were busy creating habitats....  Trees, castles, habitats for animals and people.  We used tangrams, magna tiles, blocks, floam and

Turtles..... and turtle nests..... and one IR- hiding from the camera...... she is laughing and trying to get away from the photographer..... aka- ME!

The next series of photos was taken by H, the older one..... a group of children had been working a looooong time on building "shelters" and putting loose parts or their little people inside the Ships, house, castle or shelter.... whatever they were calling them at the moment.

Bright, Sunshiny Walking Wednesday!

We are so lucky to have another beautiful, sunny day today! We decided to make the most of it and go for another walk. The Acorns have been noticing signs of spring lately, slowly but surely. They loved pointing out all of the green buds they saw poking through the earth on our walk today, and they told each other all about the things that grow in their own yards and gardens.

Today was an extra special day, because we walked all the way to Glen Park! The Acorns were SO excited when we got there. Their eyes grew wide as they took in all of the fun things to do. They had a blast exploring all of the equipment. When we got to the spinny thing (that's a technical term ;), they first asked me to push them. Then K said, "I'll push now!" After that, everyone wanted to help push. We all had so much fun enjoying the sunshine.

Have a wonderful evening!

Sunny Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday! What a beautiful day. We decided to try to escape the mud this morning and took an awesome walk. It's been awhile!

The construction on Lockwood has still been in full swing, so we decided to go check on that again. When we got close, we took a seat to see the action, but there didn't appear to be much going on. We thought about getting up and heading back, but then we heard some beeping and the workers stepped into the street, so we chose to stay and see what was going to happen. A big dump truck pulled up and through the barricades. "Wow!" H said, "We came at the right time!" Then I.R. had some questions about the different kinds of machinery, so she asked H and he told her all of the names. The dump truck dumped out a whole pile of rocks-- it was so tall when it was fully extended that E said it reached all the way to the tops of the trees! We watched with excitement as the excavator helped move the rocks and spread them out.

On the walk back, we took advantage of our boots and had a blast running through the very last of all the melting snow piles.

We really enjoyed the little taste of spring today. It will (hopefully) be here before we know it! Have an awesome evening.

MUD SEASON!!!

MUD SEASON!
Sunny Monday!! Thank goodness for some sunshine and warmer weather.
We shifted our morning routine, and started writing our names again, some of the children are working on their last names as well.   We then had breakfast, and then focused on working together, sensory and shapes.

M- Can you help me make one? I- Yes, I can come help.
K- Look at my squares.  I'm lining them up.

The three that worked on this, worked a long time creating a small world.  There are mountains, an ocean and a city.  Feel free to ask them all about it.

MUD SEASON
Unfortunately with the warm weather, comes mud.  As some point the playscape will dry out and the forest will as well. Until then we just need to embrace the season and get a little muddy.
