outdoor caper

Today we enjoyed the weather during capers.  It gives the Acorn Children a chance to explore the big playscape as a group. This will be helpful for the transition to Summer/Next year depending on your circumstances. Before we went out on the playscape we checked on the worms. Some of the Acorns are adventurous and some watch while others hold a worm.

Eggs

We started the day of as we do every other day... feeding the birds.

While doing morning routines, the children started making Eggs out of our mad matter.

Birds are certainly continuing in the Acorn Room.

An Acorn Milestone

The photo below may seem on the surface that this isn't that big of a deal.  In fact, it is a HUGE deal.  We have worked al year very hard on building community, empathy, and respecting everyone in the classroom.  For thirteen 2-3 year olds, to take turns running to the restroom/washing hands and reading books on the carpet before lunch and taking care of their own needs is HUGE!! Way to go ACORNS!!

We continue to work on letters and numbers. This week our focus is on recognising numbers and counting to the number.

Turtle Visit

After reading Gus for the last two weeks, we had turtles come and visit today! We discussed the book Gus, and asked the children what did Gus sit on? the children answered- 3 eggs!  We then asked the children, what came out of the eggs?  TURTLES!!  What a treat it was to have Ms. Kelly's daughter let us borrow the turtles for the day.

We then had an impromptu Caper Day!!  Enjoy the video!!

Where the Wild Things Are

Hopefully you have all purchased tickets to the amazing event that the PTO is throwing on Saturday!!  The Acorns worked hard to create a meaningful auction item, that tells our story for the year!  Who will be the lucky winner?  I plan on bidding on it myself!  Hope to see you there!  Let us all support the AFC and continue to do great things with the youngest children in the district!

Fun in the Forest

Acorns enjoyed another Thursday at the Forest. We spotted signs of spring! On our walk we pointed at flowers. We heard birds singing and saw them flying around the trees. At the Forest we checked out the baby trees that were recently planted.

Friends in the Forest love to play ice cream shop. B. asked, “What kind of ice cream do you want?” G. replied, “ She likes chocolate,” B. inquired, “Do you have any money.” S. said, “I need to put some money on my card.” B. then made chocolate ice cream and handed it out to the friends that stopped by the ice cream shop. Friends who received ice cream said, “Yummy!”

Shady Creek

Once again we went on an adventure to Shady Creek.  We are in search of ducks and ducklings.  I have seen them before, unfortunately we may be searching for something that will not come to fruition.  We saw a deflated ball and EH- said it was an egg....  MM - said, no EH its a ball.  She then said  Ohh.  If you know EH, you know exactly how she said it.

Most of the walk entails me chanting

Follow Kelly

Stay on the sidewalk

I am an Acorn

I love school.

This time of year, the Acorns are starting to chant with me.  I say Follow and they say Kelly and so on.

They were really getting into it, so you may hear the chants later in the evening or later in the week.

Words that described toady with the Acorns

 Always Wired Never Tired

The children were very high energy today!

We set up invitations to play, and did our morning routine.

singing our songs,

reading our current story

going over our classroom agreements

Then we headed outside to find nests!  We didn't find any, but we walked to our favorite tree, ran up and down the hill at the forest, and headed back to school for lunch.

In the end, we realized that the children were actually overtired from the weekend,
and they all fell fast asleep.
