Forest Friday!

Happy Friday!

Finally we had some sunshine this morning, and it was a perfect day to head to the forest. You have probably noticed that there has been LOTS of construction happening on the streets surrounding the school, and today was no different. When we set off on our walk, all of the huge machines were right in front of the school, so of course we had to stop to check it all out. The workers in the big trucks have been honking and waving to us, much to the delight of the Acorns.

Once we got to the Forest, everyone took off running through the woods. We had heard that it was pretty muddy, so we were prepared with everyone wearing boots, and the Acorns LOVED splashing in the giant puddles. Today, they told us that they were playing "investigators." I guess the investigation was successful, because K ended up finding some pieces of our missing sculpture! All in all, it was a great day. Have a wonderful weekend!

Finally Finished our Story

 Big H-

He sat down and started drawing the sidewalk to head back to school from the forest. H was happy to tell me that he drew me at the back of the line, he then drew the rest of us....

E- First she draws the kitty cat. Its Belles Kitty Cat.  She then continues to draw a redbud tree.  I then saw a

C- Im going to draw an N,  How are we going to get back to school on an N? It is going to be silly.  We are rocketship people so if we step on it we are on the rocket.  Now I am going to draw a big Pickle. If we step on the pickel it will be really funny.  I made it Carries favorite color.

M- So, Once upon a time- She drew a huge thing of mud, then someparts are in this and some parts are not mud. She then draws a tree in the mud. She then, grabs purple which  is part of the tree on the ground. Now she has made grass.  Rain, Rain, come again another day.  Now the sunshine is out. Then she drew herself in the forest.  This is mommy. She is adding more detail to the people.  Here are her ears. This is an egg, I like eggs.

I- Who are you drawing? Carrie, Oh I didn't draw her hair.  There is Carries hair... Look at Carries hair.

She turned the page over and is making another Carrie. Look at Carries LOOOOONNNNGGGGGG hair. She drew a bunch of dots,  she said this is us,  she then drew Dee Dee. I'm going to draw the forest.  I'm making a rainbow forest.

Rainy Wednesday

We were a little disappointed that Walking Wednesday got rained out, so we had a quiet morning doing activities in the classroom instead. We began with exploring lots of sensory materials: the sand, floam, and playdough all made appearances. We also spent time working on fine motor skills with loose parts and connectors.

A little later, DeeDee put the projectors out and some friends investigated light and shadow. They added transparent rainbow blocks and took turns creating various habitats for the small animals, stepping back to look at the wall and see the effects. They laughed as they noticed that the colors from the projector covered their bodies, joining hands and dancing in the rainbows. It was a great Wednesday!

Mud Kitchen

Since today is such a wonderful day outside, the acorns headed out right after breakfast.  We were in the mud kitchen zone, so we had plenty of room to set up different areas for outdoor learning.  In the shade we set a blanket and a basket of books.  I know, I know you would think this wouldn't  be very popular among the children.  Well think again!  It was the most popular spot!!!  We brought out the sparkle chalk,  the rulers and clipboards, the legos, the circle connectors and finally bug catchers with magnifying glass.  Everyone took turns choosing places to explore and play.  All the while I must have read stories for an hour on the blanket under the tree....  What a wonderful day of learning and enjoying the weather.  Unfortunately, allergy season is among us and some of us suffer more than others.... masks have been changed and hands washed.  I highly suggest everyone take a bath.  As we have sunscreen, bug spray and pollen ALL over ourselves.
