Measurements

Today, one of the Acorns found a very large pinecone on the playscape.  They then,  started comparing the size of the pinecone to their own feet. A few of the children knew the correct answer for their foot, the rest did not.  Not knowing measurement at this age is completely developmentaly appropriate. We are figuring out bigger and smaller.

When we ask, which is bigger, the pinecone or your shoe? Some of the children say MY SHOE! We have the feeling that they just “think” bigger is better......

Progress

It has been awhile since we have tried to draw a still life.  At the beginning of the year, all the drawings (no matter what we were looking at) looked the same.  Scribbles back and forth or scribbles in circles. Now, when the children draw, you can actually SEE what it is they are trying to capture.

Although, she is not drawing the dogwood branch, she has made improvements on her "face" drawings.  We have come a long way.....

Friday Fun!

The Acorns know what Friday means: small capers! (And pizza ;) We had a great time exploring all of the choices in the different rooms. The Acorn room had markers on mirrors, bubbly water, electronics, building at the light table, and face making with loose parts. After lunch, we went out and enjoyed the sunshine! It was a lovely Friday. We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

...And Rainy Thursday

It was another rainy morning in the Acorn room. We spent some time doing choices-- we got the gak back out, water with bubbles, and sand in the sensory table. O and C spent quite a bit of time building with blocks and loose parts! They worked together to create a really intricate structure. We also got a chance to work with the classification game that we received from an anonymous donor at Ambrose Uncorked-- the Acorns have been making a lot of progress with numbers lately, and they really enjoyed trying to match the objects with the correct numbers. Thank you to whomever donated this to our classroom! We have also been doing more planning for our Underwear Party. Stay tuned for more details! Happy Thursday. :)
