Find the blue blanket

Today after we did our morning routines, we took a walk to the forest to play the game.... Find the blue tarp.  Go to the tree,  Go to the blue tarp.  We do this so that when we go to the forest, and it is time to go, I can say " go to the blue tarp" and everyone will know where to go.  The Acorns did a great job!!

As I explained last evening.....  we will be focusing on routines/procedures and, self help for the next few weeks.  A few things that may be different at school than at home...... we keep our clothes on while potty training..... some want to remove all their clothes.  We do not have enough time or hands to allow everyone to remove their clothes to sit on the potty.

All of our rules have to do with the safety of ALL children in the room.  When we redirect a child it is for the safety of all.  We talk about being safe and keeping our friends safe all the time.  We have walking feet in the classroom to keep everyone safe.  We have kind hands.  We have listening ears.

Herding Kittens

The children have been talking about trains and busses.  We have been practicing walking around the block with listening ears, and walking feet.  Today we tried to walk to our train viewing area.  We ventured across the street!  We walked down Cedar to Jefferson and crossed at the crosswalk.  First, look to see if its safe to get in the crosswalk.  Then walk on the white lines and follow Kelly!  We did not quite make it to the train viewing spot.  But we sat down, had snack and saw the smallest train ever, an engine went by.

Self Help

Since school started 6 days ago (lol) we have been working on self help skills- washing hands with suds and bubbles, pulling up our shorts after using the restroom and coughing and sneezing in our elbows to help stop the spread of germs.  We will continue to work on routines and procedures as time goes on.

We are also training the children on how to walk on the sidewalk and follow Kelly!  Our hope is to walk safely to the train at some point.

First Time at the Forest

Today the Acorns walked to the forest and practiced our forest routine! We first met at our tree where everyone touches the tree as we get out the blue blanket. Then we all sat on the blue blanket. When everyone was ready we took a hike into our forest. The Acorns were amazed by how tall the trees in the forest were.  Then they saw a baby tree that is protected by a small wire fence. After our hike in the forest, we returned to the blue blanket and celebrated with a snack! We continued our adventure by practicing walking in a crosswalk. Acorns had a very great day outside.

Learning to Walk

Today before the heat index went up too high, we started to learn to walk as a group.  We start early so that we might make it to the forest on Monday!  The acorns did a wonderful job following Ms. Kelly around the building outside.  We went out the front doors, took a right on Cedar and a right on Gray then, walked up the big playscape.  We try to do this several times before we head out on long adventures      (for a two year old).  We have invited morning Katie and evening Katie to join us on the walk to the forest.  I am wondering how long it will take to get there and if we will make it..... stay tuned.

Washing Hands

While doing all the things..... we focused on making bubbles while washing our hands.  We do this by rubbing our hands together.  With flu/covid/rsv season around the corner, we are trying to stay ahead of the game and learn how to properly wash our hands.  We watched a video of a women scrubbing and making bubbles with her soap! We then practiced!  O- was the first to make bubbles while washing.... Way to go Acorns!

Reminders-

-be sure to check your child in and out of Brightwheel-

- drop off and pick up as quick as possible, as we have other children in our care and the quicker you are, the less tears we have after you are gone..... Thank You!

-If you have questions, please feel free to email us or send a message in Brightwheel.
