Marvelous Monday

Everyone was so excited to be back at school and together again,  we discussed how we spent our time at home with our families. Everyone seemed to enjoy their time off.   I have to say, I was a little nervous about the cold weather upon us, but the children were dressed warmly and everyone had hats and mittens!  So we were good to go!!  Thanks to the parents for having your children in weather appropriate clothes.

After breakfast, we explored a few new things in the Acorn Room.  The children had several activities to choose from this morning.  We painted with bingo dobbers, drew pictures then cut them out and colored them, we counted and sorted, and made shapes with the rubber bands and peg board.

They are getting so BIG!  Look at that rectangle!!

Here the children are using loose parts, to sort and count.

E-drew a heart and is now coloring it in, she is then going to cut it out.

H-cut out a whale, C- drew, colored and cut out a car, J- made a heart and is working on cutting it out.
Guess who has been working on their M!!!

Once we made it outside, we were playing in the leaves, and then all of a sudden, a Kitten ran up to the fence from the sink hole!!  It was met with screams of delight!  All the children ran over to the fence, as the Kitten ran up a tree, hid under a bush and then finally headed back to its own home.

Our red bucket of recycled scoops, containers, and pourers, became a Milkshape Shop.  The chocolate Milkshake was delicious!  I highly recommend it. It is wonderful that after 5 days of being apart, the children come together and include everyone in their play!!  Way to go ACORNS!!!

The play in this group with everyone involved and having a role is an amazing thing.  They care for each other, they include everyone, they are kind, they take turns, they problems solve, It truly is magical....
You should all be very proud.

Hot Cocoa and Jammies, Hooray!

Happy Tuesday!

Everyone was so excited to show off their jammies today! We started the morning with some hot cocoa with marshmallows and a discussion of what it means to be thankful. When the Acorns were asked what they were thankful for, these were the responses:

MB: "Reading and eating pizza."
EB: "Scientists that take care of the world!"
HB1: "Santa and the whole world."
HB2: "For my whole family and my dog, Beatrix."
IR: "Dad, mom, Cora, and Lucy."
KM: "I'm thankful for singing. I love to sing Frozen. Frozen is my favorite!"
JS: "School, my baby sister, and Mommy and Daddy!"
CP: "Umm, my brother, I love my brother. My Mommy and Daddy and Macklind and my puppy Aggie."

Love it! We have lots and lots to be thankful for. After our cocoa, we took a little walk and explored the outskirts of the Forest. We have been making maps, so today the Acorns decided that they were going to hunt for treasure! It was a lovely day.

It looks like it is going to be pretty chilly next Monday, so please be sure to dress appropriately!

We are so thankful for the time we get to spend with the Acorns each day. We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. Be safe, be kind, and wear your mask! 😊

Surprise... Walking Monday!

Happy Monday!
Since our usual routine was disrupted this week, we decided to have a Walking Monday instead of Wednesday. You know we love our walks! Today, we wanted to go look at another train bridge. On the way there, we heard a familiar rumble.. Oh man, it was the train! So, we stopped right where we were to watch it.

Then we finally made it to the train bridge, and stood and watched as the cars sped underneath. On our walk  back to school, we went by the church and looked for shapes. We noticed so many shapes in the stones and on the doors and windows! Friends spotted triangles, rectangles, circles, even diamonds. We sat and had a little snack as we looked for shapes, and enjoyed the sunshine while it was still beaming down.

It was a lovely start to the week!

Problem Solving and Working Together.

We have been brainstorming ideas on how to keep the children engaged and working together.  Problem solving and working together are life long skills. The sooner you figure out how to collaborate and problem solve the better off you are. Today's challenge.  There were 3 funnels, and 4 tubes, and 3 scoopers. The Acorns did not disappoint.

At first glance, the next series of photos all look the same, but if you take a closer look, you will see that to the right of each photo there is movement of children. Working, playing and experimenting together.

Have a great safe weekend!

We Love Walking Wednesday!

One of the best days of the week! We took another long walk today and the Acorns did great. We were trying to think of a fun place to walk to that we haven't visited yet, and we chose the fire station! Who doesn't love a fire truck? On the way there, we had to stop for our favorite photo op outside of Olive & Oak.

When we got to the fire station, we did not see the truck, but we did see some police cars and the fire fighters' SUV with lights on top! They waved to us, so it was still pretty exciting. While we sat on the sunny sidewalk, we had a little snack and had a letter, number, and shape hunt.

On the walk back, the Acorns initiated a game of "I Spy" with each other. They are getting so big! Everyone took turns saying, "I spy with my little eye..." and naming a color, while everyone else tried to guess what the object was. We also came across a tiny bridge in someone's front yard! The Acorns were thrilled, as we have been very interested in studying bridges.

What a lovely Wednesday!
