Birds

As most of you know, we feed the birds.  We tried to figure out how to connect birds to the children's interest  of building housed with their new doors.  So, yesterday we shared a birds nest with the children. We asked if the bird nest had a door.  Who lives in the nest.  Is their a roof? How do they stay safe and warm?

So, today we projected birds making a nest, having eggs, and feeding their babies.  We then challenged the children to create a nest.  They decided a nest was a circle.  They then went to work trying to make a circle with rocks located nearby.

What a great nest!  The only problem was it was too small for our "birds" to get inside.....

Friday Capers!

It was a great Friday for small capers! There were lots of fun activities to check out in the Acorn room, as well as in Sycamore, Seedling, and Willow. We had a blast squishing Floam, splashing in water, dressing up, and digging with dinosaurs in Jurassic sand. The Acorns really look forward to capers! It is exciting to be able to check out different environments, activities, and to spend time interacting with and learning from children from other rooms.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Frosty Thursday

We are still working on numbers each morning! The Acorns are really making progress matching the correct amount of loose parts to the numbers. We also did more building with our front doors in the block area, constructing in the magnet area, and had another obstacle course in the hallway. The highlight of the morning was when Ms. DeeDee refilled the bird feeder and put out bread— the birds and squirrels were so happy, and the Acorns had a blast watching them!

Reminders

Hello Acorn Families!  We just wanted to remind you of a few things:

  1. Check cubbies for dirty clothes in bags.
  2. Make sure your child has extra clothes.
  3. Try to get at school by 8:30.
  4. When you pick up your child in the evening, please get your child and their belongings and leave the space.  It is difficult when parents stay while the teachers are managing evening pick up. If you have questions, feel free to contact me.

WE are still working with numbers and counting this week,  we are having the acorns count everything!!  Feel free to continue the counting and number recognition at home. After last weeks sign in (the children signing in with their names)  we are very interested in letters.  The tree house is full of letters so that the children can go on a letter hunt or a number hunt.  They will know their identification in no time.....

Our self help is going very well.  Two more are potty trained!! We only have a few more left.  The children are now telling  us they want to do everything themselves. Way to go ACORNS!!

Thanks for sending in photos of your front door!  They loved having them on blocks today.  Some of the children built with the "door" others carried it around to other areas in the room. If you have not sent us your door, please do.

Tuesday with the Acorns

Happy Tuesday! We hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend. Sadly, we were stuck inside today, but we made the most of it and had a great time. This week, we are really working on numbers. This morning, instead of  “signing in,” the Acorns picked a number between one and nine and then found the correct amount of loose parts to match their number. We are beginning to make progress with number recognition!
We also continued building in the block area— if you have not emailed a photo of your front door yet, please do so! :) We will be using these as building blocks to further our interest in construction.. The Acorns love seeing pieces of their home in the classroom. One of the other choices during small group was to use a ruler to make straight lines and draw your front door. Feel free to check out our finished products hanging on the wall!
Before lunch, we made a mini obstacle course in the hallway to help get our wiggles out. It was a fun first day back!
