Forest Friday: Friends & Pretend Edition

Happy Forest Friday!

We were so happy to see some sunshine this morning. The Acorns are always thrilled when Forest Day arrives! It is such a wonderful environment that gives them opportunities to explore, safely take risks, and let their imaginations soar.

Of course, the first thing they chose to do was head  to their favorite grove of fallen trees (Waggy Tail Place) and begin climbing. Then they started a new game where they formed a line and followed one another through the woods. I asked what they were doing, and J said, "We're a team! And I is the Team Leader." Then I asked what kind of team they were and E said, "We/re a nature team! Because we love nature so much."

"Look! I'm a bat! These are my wings."

"I made an 'X'!"

After following the leader for a bit, they met in a different area and each friend had a stick. They were holding their sticks over the "fire" and "roasting marshmallows"! I love to see how they choose to use the materials they find and watch all of their ideas come to life. The Forest is truly a magical place!

Follow the Leader.

"We're a Nature Team."

"I can get down all by myself!"

Have a lovely weekend!

A New Bridge!

 Happy Walking Wednesday!

We took another looong walk today all the way to Glen Park to check out another bridge-- the Acorns have been loving all of our adventures lately.

Of course, we had to count pumpkins and spooky stuff on the way there and back. There have been lots of cool Halloween things to see around the WG, and it has made our walks that much more fun and interesting. Once we got to the park, we saw the bridge! "Another bridge!" M shouted.

We asked about the structure: what is the bridge made of? "This one is made of metal and concrete," J said. He and H are always interested in finding out how all of the different bridges are being supported. We then asked how this bridge was different from others we've seen-- what did it have on top of it? "There are lights!" E said. We then counted how many lights there were.. there were six total. We do lots of counting all day long in the Acorn room!

We have been loving all of the different bridges we've visited so far, and have been practicing making our own out of various materials at school. It is so cool to see how the children are taking note of the bridges we've seen and translating the structure to their construction in the classroom-- their designs are evolving and improving each week.

Have a wonderful evening!

Skin Tone Self Portraits

Today we dove deeper into the color of our skin, we started off by reading Peters Chair, and talked  about what color skin tone Peter is compared to our skin tone. We noticed we all are different in color. We retrieved the skin tone playdough and compared our skin tone to the tone of the playdough. We then made our self portraits using loose parts and playdough!

Do you see his feet?
And her pig tails?
Her hair?
His legs?
His nose?

His Cheeks?
All the things?

Her pride?

UP DAY!!

We got outside early this morning to beat the rain.  We brought out a few things to explore, including markers and paper, scoops and pourers, and books. Our play zone was the slide area. We were happy to notice that the slide was not wet. and that we could go down it!  I then notice the children trying to climb the slide, so we made it an up slide day.

Everyone encourage each other to climb the slide!
Everyone started to get cold, so we gathered all our materials and headed inside.

While inside, the choices were to build at the light table, explore the little people area, the shadow area, self portrait loose materials,or you could choose to use your  playdough or floam.
