Rockhill Rd. Bridge

On our way to check out another bridge, we walked by O & O and they put up a new sign!  So you know we had to take another cute picture of our Acorn Friends. 

Then we headed to the bridge.  "There isn't any water under it."  

"I just see rocks."

We then walked to the sculpture park, where E helped friend get to the top of the bird, after she pulled herself up to the birds head. 

 While at the sculpture park, we had a little snack, lost a jacket, found a jacket, walked on the garden wall, "I up high", and finally walked back to school for lunch.  

We are still interested in perspective and orientation, and we are still learning how to make good choices and helping each other when we make mistakes.  It was fabulous, that E helped her friends climb up on to the bird near the birds head. 

Safety Drill and Bridges. Still no boulders....

We had our first severe weather drill today!!  We walk down to the new FaCE office for our safe spot away from windows.  Everyone did a great job and got a high five!! Way to go Acorns!!

We then headed outside to check on the Boulders that are supposed to be delivered......  They did not deliver them today, hopefully tomorrow.  So, we made bridges.  We tested them for stability, and then added a few supports underneath.

Boulders

 The playscape was supposed to get boulder delivered and placed in the sand area today,  we were all prepared to watch and give our expertise.....you know how much we like to carry stuff, out stuff in our pockets, give our opinions...... Unfortunately they rescheduled due to weather. So, hopefully sometime this week we will see some heavy machinery!

So, we scooped and poured pea gravel, we did some outdoor art, and we talked about helping each other when we make mistakes.

We Love the Forest!

 Happy Friday Forest Day! We look forward to this all week-- these are truly some nature-loving Acorns! When we first got there, we did a bit of measuring. Some of our friends had found sticks on the walk over, and they took turns guessing if the sticks would fit in their pockets. Then we put the sticks into their pockets to see if their estimations were correct!

                                                               Does it fit?      Too long.

We brought our fort-making materials to the forest again and E told me how I should hang them up. However, the Acorns were more into climbing than fort building today! Everyone stayed on the fallen tree for the entirety of our forest time. They have been experimenting with taking risks lately, and they have been loving climbing up high, burrowing down low, and everything in between! It is so neat to watch them become little adventurers. Have an awesome weekend!

Over and Under

 Orientation and Perspective as a schema is still going strong.  It is interesting to see the differences in the playscape zones, and what the children do in those zones. The last two days, there has been nothing to climb to change our perspective, so we have been building forts and going under.

I can't believe this is our fourth week together.  We have already come such a long way.  I do love it when the children start to take ownership of the classroom and build a solid community.  Relationships are being made, conversations among the children are happening!  YAY! 

Bridges

We barrowed a few research books from our library to investigate bridges a little deeper.  While we were getting ready for breakfast, and looking at the bridge books. I asked the children if they saw anything in the room that could become a bridge? The half logs became the supports and the tunnel under the treehouse became the bridge. 

Once it was in place and stable, they started testing it to see how much it weight it would hold. 

Everyone could fit! 

Then, we made a train bridge and everyone sat on the bridge.
