Independence

 We worked on self help today.  We started off with our books, I can do it    and then later we read 

Grover has to GO!  We also practiced flip flop over the top, putting on our own shoes, hats and mittens. 

As we work on all these new skills, we are praising each attempt to build on success.

I Can Do It Myself!

Acorns enjoy learning how to do things by themselves. We have been reading several books about toddlers doing things for themselves too. Acorns love to take the initiative to do things for themselves and are encouraged to put on their own coats, socks, and shoes by themselves. They pull up their own pants after using the bathroom and wash their hands without assistance. Please continue to encourage your children to do things by themselves when they are away from school too.

Birthday Celebration!!

We celebrated our first Birthday of the Year!  Happy Birthday M!  Our celebration is compiled of several activities for the honord Birthday Child.  First we paint the letter of our first name, then we have a dance party and the Birthday Child picks the song.  We then have a special chair we sit in and everyone sings Happy Birthday.   She has had a great day!!

Birthdays are an important milestone in the lives of young children. Birthdays place children at the center

of attention for one wonderful day each year. At the Ambrose Family Center, children in each classroom

decide as a group how to celebrate each other’s birthdays through a meaningful “birthday tradition”.

Teachers will share with parents/guardians the “birthday tradition” for your child’s classroom which does

not include bringing treats from home. Please honor the very special classroom experience designed by

the children as they celebrate each other’s birthdays. Enjoy what is created for your child in honor of their

birthday. Please let your teachers know if you do not wish for your child’s birthday to be celebrated.

Ramps

 As we dive deeper into simple machines, we were outside using the ramps.  Not only are we exploring how the balls move down the ramps, we are noticing and talking to each other.  This may not seem like a big deal..... in fact it is a HUGE DEAL!

Caper Day

 You will start to see projects emerging during caper day.  I believe one class is creating sculptures,  one is into clay, one is into the schema enveloping,  and we are dabbling in simple machines. Once again, the Acorns stayed close to home. M ventured out to go find LB, and V went out to explore on her own.  Well done Acorns!

Finding Acorns

The Acorn Class loves playing with the leaves, so we added leaves and acorns to the outdoor sensory bin. Yesterday we noticed there were only 3 acorns left in the sensory bin, so we decided to go for a walk and collect additional acorns. 

We walked by the chickens and stopped to see them.

We found a pinecone and decided to collect a few more for our buckets and pulleys.

We sat around the table to compare the sizes of some of the acorns.

Forest Day!!

                                     We love a good forest day and today was lovely!

                 

The children discovered a stump with a hole in the middle and have decided that it is a fire and they will be roasting Marshmallows.

Outdoor Caper Day

                                         It is a gorgeous day!  We took capers outside!

What does a classroom community look like in the Acorn room?

As we head into week 9 of the school year the children are starting to notice and play together. Our routines and procedures help build a community of learners who help each other and work together to learn, feel safe and happy.

Today the children helped me.  We took a wagon out to my car to collect our classroom plants that summer at my home.

Sticks at the Forest

Today Acorns walked to the Forest to find more pine cones for their buckets and pulleys and to explore the Forest. Acorns took turns carrying the bags where we put the pine cones on our walk.

We did not find many pine cones in the Forest, but we found many sticks. Acorns started comparing the size of their sticks to each other. 

FCF said, “I found a stick!”

P said, “ My stick is bigger than yours”

AM then walked over and said, “My stick is bigger”

Other Acorns saw that the three were comparing stick sizes and decided to find their own sticks.

A friend wanted help with his mittens. B said, “I help you,” and helped him with his mittens.

L and V looked at the baby tree to see if it grew since the last time we saw it.

Acorns also like to pretend to build a campfire and roast food over their campfire. 

AM said, “I’m making a fire.”

O added little twigs to the campfire as M and W looked to see their creation.

Acorns also enjoy playing in the stick fort!
