Labyrinth

Today we headed over to the large playscape and explored with shovels, sand, wheel barrels and the labyrinth.....

A labyrinth is used for walking meditation. It is a single winding path from the outer edge in a circuitous way to the center.   Labyrinths are used world-wide as a way to quiet the mind, clam the anxieties, recover balance in life, enhance creativity and encourage mediations. insight, self reflection and stress reduction.

Color Mixing

While the children were playing in the tubs of blue and yellow water, some started to experiment. It took some time before the courageous and filled the droppers and added it to the tub next to them.
B- giggled in amazement as he added blue to the yellow bin.
T- "It's changing colors! The yellow is turning green!
B-continued to add blue water to the yellow water.
G-Clapped his hands!!

Birds Eye View

As you may know, the Acorns love the sun. We were drawn to it early this morning with outdoor invitations.  One of those invitations was to fill the feeder, and then sit on the other side of the fence with Binoculars and bird identification cards.

T- That's my favorite bird.- pointing at a blue bird.

A- That's my favorite bird too.

S- I like the Cardinal one. I see you. I see you. 1,2,3,4,5,6.

G- Look at the blue bird.

T- Look at this one.

G- I like that one.

Toe Nails

“ Look- there is paint on my toenails.”

A sweet moment listening to the birds.

Don't you think the sun is bright?
I wonder where it goes at night?
Does it sleep or does it hide?
Or is the moon its other side?

Does it hide behind the hills?
Late at night as outside chills?
Do you think it needs to rest?
From all that warming it does best?

Could it even have a home?
Maybe in London or even in Rome?
Or does it just float around?
Moving slowly from town to town?

Yes, I think it must do that!
After all the earth's not flat.
So the sun goes round and round
Spreading sunshine on the ground!

As we walked to our special tree, we walked past this sculpture in the front of the school. Kelly asked- What do you think it is?
"A square."

Where we were headed to find large sticks for our nest on the little playscape.    This is what we did....  Did anyone find the sticks?

Friday Capers

Happy Friday! Today we capered with three other classrooms. In our classroom we crawled through a tunnel like a worm tunnels through the dirt. We designed a wood forest for our small wooden owl. We made eggs and worms out of mad matter and we created our shadows on a white blanket as we flapped our arms like birds.

It's Not Hot Chocolate

There were no nests.... but deep in the forest, there were puddles filled to the brim with mud. It has been a long time since we have seen puddles look so good.  First, we were cautious, slapping the water with sticks.  Then, a courageous acorn went into the middle of the mud puddle. We were then off to the races.  It was only a matter of time that all Acorns were in the thick of it. Needless to say, our forest time was cut in half because of the clean up that would soon happen.  Most of you have dirty clothes to take home.  Some of you have borrowed shoes/boots, please bring extra pants and socks.  Because Spring has not arrived but I can see this will happen again and again.

Nest

Nest- a structure or place made or chosen by a bird for laying eggs and sheltering its young

The chilly day called for a walk in the clouds as we searched for nests.

A- Look! I have found three nests!

E- Where do you see them?

M- Look here is another nest.

G- I see them.

B- Where?

H- Birds live in nests.

M- The building is tall.
