Caper Friday!!

As we begin to delve into studies and projects, our caper blogs will be more about "the Study" in Acorn and less about seeing the children explore in other classrooms.  We will still have photos and information on our caper blog posts, we will just include everyone else's blogs for your viewing pleasure. Today was all about shapes. The older children were teaching the Acorns names of shapes and how to make shapes with various materials.

Forest Day and a Little Self-help

Before we went to the forest, we practiced putting on our own jackets. We put the jacket with the tag at our toes and put our hands in the holes, stand up and flip.  Then TA DA!  The jacket is on!! It is that time of year where we will be doing a TON of self help, manners- including how to cough in your elbow, blowing your own nose then remembering to wash your hands.  And of course the exciting

                                                               POTTY TRAINING!!!!

So far, most of the children already sit on the potty here at school.  We are working on everyone sitting, and being comfortable with our restroom.  Soon we will be having everyone bring underwear in with extra clothes.  Below you will find information on Toilet Learning from the AFC Handbook.

Toilet Learning

We ask that children three years of age and older be toilet trained unless there is a medical or developmental reason for a child to be unable to use the bathroom. We will work closely with families to assure success as they help their children become independent. For children still requiring diapers, parents/guardians are expected to provide disposable diapers and wipes for their child and an extra set of clothes. If you require assistance obtaining these items, please reach out to our PAT program.

I also have handouts from PAT to share with anyone who is interested. Please let us know.

We have included a link of the video that teaches you how to help your child learn to put their own jackets on.  We will also be using this technique in the Acorn Room.

Nature Collection Walk

Today we went on a nature collection walk.  First we visited the oak tree by the Cedar parking lot and collected lots of nature. We especially loved the acorns! Then we walked to the forest to collect more nature. While at the forest Ms. Dee Dee read "The Leaves on the Tree." We explored how some leaves are shaped like hearts and others like dinosaur tracks and some like fans. We can't wait to use the nature we collected to make self portraits next week!

Children also pointed out shapes as we walked through the neighborhood.
