Introduction To Numbers

We have been counting since the beginning of the year.  Today, we brought out the numbers for number recognition and matching items of loose parts to the number.  Ex.  Put two loose parts on the number 2.  Once the children start to recognize more numbers, we will expand on this and have them match loose parts to each number.

Forest

Today we ventured back to the Forest. Acorns eagerly entered the Forest. They carefully looked around to see if they noticed any changes. Then they tried to find the biggest stick and the muddiest puddle.

Noticings

Today we noticed that some of the children are moving from building horizontally to now stacking and constructing vertically.  There are many milestones that happen while in Acorn Room.  This is one of them. We had changed out the materials several times due to weather, and being indoors more than we had hoped.  This was a happy development of being indoors.

Numbers/Counting

While we were inside hiding from the fog, we made cloud dough from scratch.  We counted how many scoops of flour we needed, and then we added just the right amount of baby oil to create a clean fragrant sensory exploration.  Our room has never smelled so good!!

A Box

An empty box, just the right size for an Acorn.

When choice time rolled around, the box sat empty.

But just for a moment.
Then, a curious Acorn came to check it out.
Then another, then another, and another.

Then, one left .

Then, one left.

Then, a new Acorn came.

Then, a menu came to the box.

Then, they were out of the box.
Then, they were back in the box.

You have to love a box!

Happy Friday!

Acorns enjoyed another fun day inside. They continued to play with gak and created new designs with markers. They built new creations with many different types of magnetic materials. They also played with frogs in the sand.

GAK

GAK

The exploration of sensory with the two's.
It is interesting to see who will come over and explore.  Who will dive in with two hands squeezing? Or will they just poke it with one finger? Maybe the better question is, how will we get it off our fingers, once we have it everywhere?  A.L. had the best solution, she rubbed her hands together and it all came off.

Inside Fun

Acorns spent the morning indoors. Acorns listened to the book, “The Snowy Day” and then described what they did on their snowy days. After lunch Acorns created an indoor crosswalk and walked on it while the video of them walking on an outdoor crosswalk played.

Acorns watching Acorns

After we filmed the Acorns walking across the crosswalk yesterday, we planned to project them on the wall for this morning.  They were ecstatic seeing themselves on the  wall.  They were shocked, they giggled, they laughed, they called out their own names when they appeared on the screen.  We love to hear them giggle.  There is nothing like 13 children giggling. Here is a peek of the joy the Acorns created today.

Since we can't go out in the cold cold weather, we decided to paint a street.  Once are "street" is dry, we will put a crosswalk on it and use our "body blocks" to safely walk across the street.  I wonder if the children will ask about street signs?.....
