S'more Day
Celebrating the cold weather with S'mores! We are so lucky to have a playscape that was made to embrace all of our amazing outdoor activities. This has always been a favorite day! The children loved melty stickiness, and the delicious combination a S'more provides!
Thank YOU to the families for bringing in items to make this day complete!
We will be taking Hot Chocolate to the forest on Monday!!

Findings at the Forest
Today the Acorns discovered a new stick structure at the Forest. They went in the structure and added sticks to to the new finding. J discovered a log in the structure had an acorn in it. J, FCF, and FK took turns trying to dig the acorn out. First they used their hands. They were all wearing mittens and could not grip the acorn. Then they used small sticks, but they couldn’t reach the acorn. Then they gathered wide, long sticks but they were too big for the opening of the log. Then they tried narrow, long sticks. Eventually they decided to explore other parts of the Forest.

Using our crosswalk
Today we went on a walk to our "train viewing" area to use our crosswalk. We had voted again this morning with more Acorns. We still only wanted 2 lines on the crosswalk, so we grabbed our backpack, and two pieces of crosswalk to head to our spot. We know what your thinking..... we are thinking the same thing.... We get to the area, sit them on the sidewalk, and ask How might we use our crosswalk to get to the picnic bench? We waited..... and waited..... ( wait time is important in the Acorn room, it takes a minute to process the questions.....) I then asked if anyone had ideas on how we might use the crosswalk to get from the sidewalk to the picnic table.
L- I have an idea!
ok, come try it out.
L- She sat them on the ground between the areas.....
Is is big enough?
P- NO
How many more do we need?
P- 5
5 more or 5 total?
P- 5 more.
You would be amazed at how many GOLD items we will be able to document while doing this activity!!
Well done ACORNS!!!

Lines on our Crosswalk
Today we voted with the children to figure out how many white lines should be on our crosswalk. We discussed how many lines are on the crosswalks that we go visit, and then we asked each child how many lines they would like on The Acorn Crosswalk. Two children said 4 lines, two children said 2 lines and one child said 3. We wanted a majority, so we voted between 4 lines and 2 lines. The 4 line crosswalk won!! Three children voted for 4 lines and two children voted for 2 lines. We then discussed which number is bigger a 3? Or a 2? most of the children said the 2 was bigger. We tried different language... which is more? and so on, but the answer stayed the same. We will obviously continue to work on that!!
