Our Second Birthday Celebration!!

 We celebrated our second birthday today!!  The birthday child painted the letter M, we sang Happy Birthday and we had a dance party with ribbons.  He LOVED IT!!!

Just a reminder of how we celebrate Birthdays here in Acorn and the AFC.

We celebrated our second Acorn Turning three.  At this point in the game, it isn't age appropriate for our class to decide on the Birthday Celebrations,. So, Kelly and I have decided the Birthday Celebration Creation. We scoured celebrations from the past and came up with...... The Birthday Child will decorate the letter of their first name!!  We then have a dance party, and sing Happy Birthday!

Shape Walk

Today we went on a Shape Walk.  As we walked through the community, we looked for shapes and pointed them out.  Some of us found squares, rectangles, circles, triangles, hearts, and cones. We will be continuing to work on this skill all year. We plan to make a shape book to help review the shapes we found.

The Secret Bridge

 After a morning of Birds Birds Birds, we walked to the secret bridge.... we were hoping to see a train.  We obviously didn't see one.  We did have snack and once we started walking away, and were almost to school, we heard the train. The goal is to see a train sometime this year!!!

Math!! We did Math today!!

We completed our morning routine and invitations today and had some time left over. So, we voted on what to do next.  The children voted on either going to the lil playscape, or going for a walk.  The walk won!  We counted the tallies, looked at the numbers and decided which number was bigger.  This was our first time voting, we will continue to vote and analyze the data we collect.

Fire Station!

 The children have been hearing sirens going off since the beginning of school on our little playscape.  We have been in "training" for the big event since school started. It paid OFF!  We saw TWO fire trucks backing up into the station.  We saw the Fire Chief pull in, and we met Firefighter Chris who gave us all firefighter hats.  They then stopped traffic, and we crossed the street and were allowed to go through the truck!!  Who loves the WG Firefighters?? The Acorns DO!!

Forest Day!!

 We LOVE forest day!  It was definitely all about taking risk.  The children are getting comfortable in the forest and it shows.

Article on Risk Taking

The birds are out doing themselves for the Acorns.  The feeder is the hot spot of the neighborhood.  We have added clipboards and pencils to the bird viewing spot for the children.  The drawing prompt is 

                                      What are you observing the birds do?  What do you see?

                 We encourage the children to climb up on the bench quietly and view the birds.

Caper Day

 Caper day has been moved to Wednesday.  We invited half day to join in on the fun and Wednesday works best for them.  It was wonderful to have more space in the hallway for the children to explore and the addition of  one more room.  The third caper day brought new risk taking for some of the Acorns.  Two more friends left to explore.  With the addition of Dogwood, another set of siblings found each other and had a wonderful time...... until Caper Day was over.  There were a few tears, but we quickly recovered.

Forest Day Thursday-  You may want to put your child in long pants.  We are getting eaten alive out there. Don't forget the bug spray!!
