We love Forest Friday!

Happy Friday!

You know everyone always looks forward to Forest day/pizza day. 😊 When we got to the Forest this morning, DeeDee asked the Acorns to show her the awesome mysterious tree fort that appeared last week since she didn't get to see it, and the Acorns were more than happy to oblige. We still aren't sure who built the fort, but we have been having lots of fun making guesses.

Next, the Acorns continued one of their favorite games, which involves playing monkeys and eating bananas. It's certainly easy to be monkeys with all of the wonderful tree branches to swing from! I just love their huge imaginations.

Have a great weekend!

Slimy Good Day

Today we were planning on going outside and enjoy the sun, then we figured out where our zone was located today...... It is not a very good spot....  It is the observation deck.  We have some plants coming up, so we were mindful not to step on anything green, but there is not a whole lot to do out there until it is time to plant.  We took fort building materials and got to work.

While inside, I found some slime, loose parts we haven't played with, and other beloved items.  The slime was a huge draw, and extremely sticky.  Sorry in advance for any left over slime on the clothing.  We did our best to keep it off ourselves. We even wore aprons!!!

Some of the photos were taken by the children.  They were proud of their creations, and my hands were full of slime.

Wonderful Warm Weather Walking Wednesday!

What a great day! We have gotten so lucky with the weather these past couple weeks. There are a few destinations we keep in rotation for Walking Wednesdays, but sometimes we need a change of scenery, so today we decided to check out something new: back behind the sculpture park, there is a wooded wildlife area called the Shady Creek Nature Sanctuary. There are little paths along the creek, so we took a lovely nature walk. H said, "I'm so glad we found this place. It's so beautiful!" And it truly was. The warm sun beaming through the trees, the sparkly water trickling in the creek... it doesn't get much better than that!

Once we explored Shady Creek Nature Sanctuary, we decided to cross over the street to see what the creek looked like on the other side of the park. We determined that there was a little less water on that side, and the creek was a bit smaller. Then we went back to the park and played near the egg sculptures-- we usually stay on the side with the bird, so this was an exciting change of pace. We ended our morning by looking at the big sculpture and talking about what it looked like to each of us. There were lots of answers: "I see rectangles and triangles!" "I see a ponytail!" "I see pizza!" What do you see? :)

Have an awesome evening! Hope you get to enjoy the sunshine.

Weather Drill Tuesday

Happy Tuesday Acorn Families.  Today we practiced severe weather drill.  We discussed what we would do during severe weather while at school. We then discussed what to do for severe weather while at home.  Out of all the things we did today, the drill had the most impact on the children. We went to our "safe" weather location (which has no windows) and got on our knees, and then put our heads on the floor and then our hands on the back our our necks to protect our body.  The children did a wonderful job.  As you know, Carrie and I are only together during the day when we plan walks, or go to the forest.  So it is imperative that the children listen to the one adult in the room.  Thankfully we have worked hard on building community, and relationships with each child so that the children DO listen to their teachers..... at least most of the time... hee hee.

Happy MARCH!!!   Hopefully March will bring sunshine and warm weather. Thank you all for signing up to talk with us.  It will be nice to check in face to face.   We will be sending Gold Reports to you about 2 days before your conference. All of the children are doing fantastic!!  No Worries parents!!

H- (the older one) had me take a photo of his creation that he called.  A Woman's Face.
I- had me help her with a new puzzle.
H and K started putting the USA puzzle together and then, H told me they were playing Frozen! hee hee
Here a little sensory at the frog habitat.
J and M in the block area.  Getting inside the boxes and then covering themselves up.  Perspective is still a thing.  We started the year off with perspective and it is still going strong.

At our morning meeting, the children brought up skin tone as a topic.  They wanted to know why people are different tone.  Last week we read a story that talked about our melanin. The book went on to say that when a person is in the sun, it activates their melanin and your skin will get darker.  Of course I took this opportunity to talk about sunscreen and keeping your body safe in the sun..... I actually thought the topic went completely unnoticed.    Then low and behold,  this question pops up 5 days later.  So, again today, we talked about what melanin is and how it protects you from the sun and changes with the amount of sunlight you get while being outside.
