Trains... Clay... and Pathways....

 A lot of the Acorns are starting to turn THREE! 

Which means..... we are working on the letters that belong in 

our names.

We talk about what sound each letter makes and in 

which order it goes to spell our name.

 We noticed birds eating from our bird feeder.

 We worked on new pathways through the tree house.

 We rode the train, discussed how and where you could sit, and if you needed a phone.

 We then explored clay. The children made small little balls and pancakes with the clay.

"The train is broken down."

Our friends were deeply engaged in dramatic play involving transportation today. Some friends were using blocks to make "motorcycles". 

"This is my helmet." 

"I have to wear a helmet so I don't crash." 

We also had markers out for drawing on a mirror.

"It's a surprise party. This is your cake and balloon." 

 On the light table we had sand and paint brushes. Friends were calling it "Gold dust."

 While friends were on the train one friend said, "The train is broken down. We need to fix it." Friends worked together pretending to fix the train and get it up and running again.

First small capers of 2018

Our Acorns were hard at work during Small Capers today. In the Willow Room friends got some practice working with scissors to cut small scraps of paper and glue them down. They also had different colored materials on their light table and ramps with cars. 

 In the Seedling room their tent was open and they had sand with seashells.

"I'm at the beach."

In Sycamore Room they had their baby dolls open and their dress up clothes with dancing projections up on the wall.

"This is my baby. His name is Baby."

Back from Winter Break

Once we got in our room and everyone had arrived, we went over our class room agreements(rules).  Surprisingly the children could verbalize the agreements! Way to go Acorns!! Throughout the day, some of them needed a few reminders, but all in all it was a good first day back. 

There were few tears this morning during drop off, making a quick exit is usually best.  Thanks to all the families for remembering our routines and drop offs.  We appreciate the smooth transition back to school.

We hope everyone enjoyed their time together as a family, I know Meghan and I enjoyed our time with ours. We are now rejuvitated to dig deeper in our learning and exploration with the Acorns.

We set out a few new provocations for the children to engage in on our first day back.
